Dahlia Bushwick was born in 1990 in York, Pennsylvania. She holds a BFA in Painting from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). In conjunction to studying for her degree, Bushwick pursued the tradition of glassblowing by apprenticing at Corradetti Glassblowing Studio in Baltimore and Art of Fire glass studio in Gaithersberg, MD. She has worked and studied at institutions such as Pilchuck Glass School and the Chrysler Museum of Art, and she has assisted various conceptually driven artists in the field of glass, such as Thermon Statom, Richard Marquis and Erica Rosenfeld.
Bushwick engages with a variety of mediums and is currently interested in creating a dialogue between painting and glass. Although both materials are process-based, hot glass requires instantaneous decisions, while painting allows the artist more flexibility with time. The combination of the two mediums creates an interesting dichotomy. With both materials, Bushwick is attracted to the challenge the mediums present: each stretch the boundaries of what the substances are capable of doing while restraining the materials so that they are still under her control.
She has exhibited her work nationwide at progressive venues such as at the Portsmouth Museum of Art, at Current Space in Baltimore City, and at the Pilchuck Gallery in Washington. Bushwick has recently completed a studio residency at Lillie Pad Studios in Millersville, MD.
